After several years of providing users with 3D modeling features, the updated version of the classic Paint app will be discontinued on the Microsoft Store later this year.
A banner at the top of the app states, "Paint 3D is deprecated and will be removed from the Microsoft Store on November 4th, 2024." Launched in 2017 alongside the Windows 10 Creators Update, Paint 3D enabled users to create modern art with its innovative tools.
The app boasted a new interface, 2D and 3D painting features, support for layers and transparency, among other advanced tools.
Although Microsoft initially intended to replace the classic Paint app with Paint 3D entirely, the company decided to keep the old app available due to widespread criticism.
A Microsoft Learn webpage advises, "To view and edit 2D images, you can use Paint or Photos. For viewing 3D content, you can use 3D Viewer."
Last year, Microsoft also discontinued several other features including Windows Mixed Reality, Windows speech recognition, the Tips app, and Cortana in Windows.
