In September 2025, retail sales in the Eurozone experienced a marginal decline of 0.1% month-on-month, marking the third successive month of either contraction or stagnation and falling short of the anticipated 0.2% increase. Sales in the fuel sector dropped by 1.0%, continuing their downturn for the third straight month. Additionally, non-food sales decreased by 0.2%, following a 0.5% decline in August. In contrast, sales of food, drinks, and tobacco remained stable, following a modest increase of 0.4% the previous month. Retail trade performance varied across major economies: it decreased in Italy (-0.6%), the Netherlands (-0.4%), and France (-0.1%), while experiencing growth in Spain (+0.4%) and Germany (+0.2%). Annually, the growth in retail trade slowed to 1.0%, aligning with expectations, down from 1.6% in August.
