Indonesian Stocks Retreat After MSCI Review

Indonesian equities fell 58 points, or 0.9%, to 6,318 in Thursday morning trade, unwinding the previous day’s rally. The decline was broad-based, led by basic materials, cyclical stocks, and healthcare. Sentiment weakened after MSCI’s August review confirmed no new additions and 11 deletions from its key indices, attributed to a strict global “freeze” policy. Indonesia remains classified as an Emerging Market, but the weighting of local equities has been reduced, with the changes taking effect after the market close on August 31, 2026.

Elsewhere, U.S. stock futures were mixed after Wall Street ended mostly higher overnight, supported by softer inflation data that eased concerns over further Federal Reserve rate hikes. On the domestic front, losses were partly contained by reports that the government plans to reclaim a portion of state-owned enterprises’ dividends to build a fiscal buffer fund. Among notable laggards were ESSA Industries (-4.2%), Adaro Andalan (-2.8%), Merdeka Battery (-2.7%), and Sumber Alfaria Trijaya (-2.2%), reflecting selling pressure across sectors.
