Kenya’s annual inflation rate climbed for the third consecutive month to 6.8% in September 2026, its highest level since January 2024. This also marked the sixth straight month in which inflation remained above the central bank’s 5% midpoint target.
The main upward pressure came from higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages (9.5%, up from 9% in August), transport (15.6% compared with 15.7% previously), and housing and utilities (3.2% versus 3.6% in August).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.9%—the sharpest increase since May—following a 0.4% gain in August.
