The global trade war is heating up, with Germany joining the fray. According to German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck, his country and all of Europe are prepared to impose counter-tariffs against the United States.
In his statement, Robert Habeck, who is also Germany's economy minister and a member of the Green Party, emphasized that European countries are ready to impose tariffs on American goods if US President Donald Trump makes the first move and imposes duties on EU products.
The official stressed that the United States has much to lose as well. "We Europeans are prepared for counter-tariffs and we can't let ourselves be pushed around," Habeck stated. He further noted that the German economy is the most vulnerable in Europe.
Earlier, Trump warned that he would impose import tariffs on a range of goods from the European Union, accusing countries in the region of having a "terrible attitude" towards the United States.
The White House also confirmed President Trump's decision to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China. These tariffs took effect on February 1.
