Russia is known all over the world as “a gas station masquerading as a country”. This name could have been received even in the 5th century BC. It turned out that a tradition to extract black gold and sell it to more developed countries goes back to the ancient times. This fact was proved by the recent discovery made by archeologists not far from the Crimean ferry line. During the archeological dig, the research team found an ancient closed amphora. After opening the container, the scientists saw a black solid mass, however, only a preliminary analysis revealed that it was oil.
The place where the amphora was found is a flourishing trade route that also confirms that oil was transported for sale or barter. The amphora’s age identified in the field showed that it was produced in the 5th century BC. The oil, which became solid and heavy, will be carefully examined to determine its age and components. Such discoveries are made rather often. However, despite the fact that there was no need to dig rigs as at that time oil was close to the surface, black gold was not in demand.
