On January 20, Donald Trump was sworn in as president of the United States. During his inauguration speech he declared: “From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first.” Interestingly, Trump is the first US president whose victory divided the country.
His supporters claim that his election promises are an overdue recipe, while his opponents call him a populist politician who would undermine the foundations of the Western democracy and would disrupt the world order.
Speaking before almost a million people, the elected US president said that the United States enriched foreign industry at the expense of American companies, letting the US military become depleted, and spent trillions abroad while allowing infrastructure at home to crumble. He also pledged to unite the world against radical Islamic terrorism.
"Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs, will be made to benefit American workers and American families," he said.
Meanwhile, chaos erupted in the streets of Washington with thousands of anti-Trump supporters shattering shop windows and the windows of the Bank of America branch.
