Ford Motor Co. has no plans to shift production of its Focus Active, the Chinese-made crossover-style hatchback, to the United States.
Contrary to a tweet from President Donald Trump that suggested building the car in the US, Ford indicated that producing a vehicle that would have had fewer than 50,000 unit sales a year in the US was not financially wise for the company.
That weighed down Ford’s stock price during the trading session on Monday. The company’s market value declined to $36.95 billion so far this year.
In late August, it was reported that the American automaker would not sell its niche vehicle Ford Focus in the United States because of the prospect of higher US tariffs.
