Musk sells satin shorts in jibe aimed at short sellers

As it turns out, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and Space X, has a great sense of humor. Recently, he has started selling Tesla-branded short shorts in a stab at skeptical short-sellers who are betting against the company's shares. Remarkably, the sale of the satin shorts kicked off after Musk joked that the car company was intending to "make fabulous short shorts in radiant red satin with gold trim".

After lucrative operations conducted on the stock market, Musk decided to make fun of investors who declared that the electric carmaker's shares were overpriced. "Limited edition short shorts now available," Elon Musk tweeted. The limited-edition garment was available for $69.420. Within several hours, it became an Internet phenomenon. The joke was also noticed by the company’s opponents causing heated debates on the Internet and beyond.

There is an assumption that the odd price tag could refer to the anonymous offer. An unknown buyer was trying to buy Tesla shares for $420 each. Earlier Tesla’s shares broke all price records and the company became the first US automaker to hit a $100 billion market cap.

Notably, at first, no one took seriously Musk's offer to buy red satin shorts on the company's website. However, when Internet users discovered that this was not just a funny remark but a real offer, Tesla’s online store briefly went offline.

Besides, this is not the first time when Musk takes swipes at short-sellers and the company's critics. For instance, in 2018, he sent a box of shorts to Tesla short-seller David Einhorn.
