Europe’s decision to open borders and begin a tourist season has not brought anything good. Authorities of some European countries promised that businesses would have a chance to earn money due to a flow of tourists. Thus, they had to allow people to cross borders in order to have a rest at the European resorts. As a result, there is a jump in the number of people infected with the coronavirus.
For example, Greece that almost managed to avoid the first virus outbreak is likely to be placed under strict quarantine.
In an attempt to support the tourism sector, the local government opened only the Bulgarian-Greek border crossing point. This led to a big traffic jam of 12 kilometers.
President of the National Health Organization Panagiotis Arkoumaneas said that passengers arriving in Greece would have to fill out a special form providing basic information 48 hours before their arrival day and time. He also added that the key aim was to invite a lot of tourists and protect people from the virus.
Italy and Spain have faced the similar problems. The countries’ governments are trying to support tourism. However, in fact, their actions are causing an increasing burden on doctors and soaring number of patients. Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that since the Second World War, the country had faced such a grave crisis for the first time. Spain has enormous problems in the healthcare, economy, and social spheres.
