The story of the confrontation between US President Donald Trump and the Chinese TikTok has all chances to become a good TV series with a twisted plot and an unpredictable ending.
Looking back, the American leader decided to do everything possible to make ByteDance, the owner of the Chinese video-sharing service, give up a stake in TikTok. According to Trump, this was a necessary measure so that the Chinese government could not control the work of the social network in the United States. After that, the president threatened to completely ban TikTok on the territory of his country, if the company did not meet his demands. As a result, Trump moved from words to actions and signed an executive order that prohibited all US residents from cooperating with TikTok and its parent company ByteDance. Thus, the video-sharing service risks being closed down in the United States, if it is not acquired by an American firm until September 15.
It seemed like the outcome was not far off, but there had been another plot twist. ByteDance somehow remembered that it was based not in China, but on the territory of the US where all were equal before the law. Eventually, the company filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration aiming to challenge the intention of the US authorities to ban TikTok from operating in the United States.
