One can truly envy Elon Musk’s sense of humor. What is more important, he knows how to make solid cash out of his jokes. Apparently, when you want to go into open space in order to reach the moon and Mars, then what else is there to do? The answer is to have fun with small but quite unusual projects. For instance, to launch a new alcohol brand with a perfect drink to ponder on your successes.
Funny enough, the Tesla Tequila brand has started out as an April Fools’ joke and now it has turned into a full-fledged successful business venture. On April Fools' Day in 2018, the entrepreneur joked that Tesla had gone "completely and totally bankrupt". "Despite intense efforts to raise money, including a last-ditch mass sale of Easter Eggs, we are sad to report that Tesla has gone completely and totally bankrupt. So bankrupt, you can't believe it. Elon was found passed out against a Tesla Model 3, surrounded by "Teslaquilla" bottles, the tracks of dried tears still visible on his cheeks," he tweeted. As a result, people liked the name of the new alcoholic drink so much that they wanted to try it. Over two years after filing for the trademark, Tesla did it. Now electric car maker’s fans have such an opportunity: the company has released a small trial batch of premium alcoholic beverage called Tesla Tequila contained inside a hand-blown glass bottle shaped like a lightning bolt. The bottle will lighten customers’ wallets by $250. Notably, on the official website, it is stated that the tequila has been aged for 15 months in French oak barrels and it will taste like "dry fruit and light vanilla nose with a balanced cinnamon pepper finish".
This is not Musk's first project created for fun. In 2016, he founded a transport startup the Boring Company and then sold 50,000 black caps with the inscription of the Boring Company. He also made a huge profit from selling 20,000 safe flamethrowers, branded and sold via The Boring Company, at the price of $500 apiece. "When the zombie apocalypse happens, you’ll be glad you bought a flamethrower. Works against hordes of the undead or your money back!" he tweeted. There is no need to say that all the flamethrowers were sold out in a few days.
