The UK authorities have recently announced the creation of more than one COVID-19 vaccine. In December, the country is planning to receive an emergency approval of three coronavirus vaccines, which have successfully passed trials.
Before starting mass production of vaccines, their developers must obtain permission from the regulatory authorities of the United Kingdom. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that it would take a little more than a week. The first vaccine has been developed by American drugmaker Pfizer. The second one belongs to Biotech, a German pharma company. The third vaccine has been made by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca, a British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical company.
"No vaccine has yet got MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) approval, but we are obviously hoping that both the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine will get approved in the course of the next few days and weeks," Johnson told reporters. Thus, currently, everything depends on the local supervisory authorities. The British can only hope that it will not take much time and officials will grant an emergency approval before Christmas. As the coronavirus is still raging across the country, such a piece of news will be a real Christmas gift.
According to the World Health Organization, there are currently about 170 projects aimed at developing a coronavirus vaccine. Russia was the first to register the vaccine in August. However, since then, the country has not succeeded further. Obviously, Russia does not have the proper tech equipment to produce the vaccine. Besides, Sputnik V raises many questions from experts.
