Recently, the rating of EU’s richest and poorest countries has been published. According to the research, Denmark is the wealthiest country in Europe. Notably, the calculation of wealth of a particular country was based on the value of assets owned by local households rather than on gas and oil reserves or the number of local oligarchs. According to Denmark’s central bank, the average household in Denmark has 1.88 million Danish kroner ($300,000) in financial assets. Experts point out that the wealth of Danish households is growing at a rapid pace. In the first quarter of 2021, their wealth increased on average to 24,000 Danish kroner ($3,800) per person. Households in the Netherlands rank second in terms of the highest amount of financial assets. They are followed by Luxembourg and Sweden. Meanwhile, Romania turned out to be the poorest country in the EU, with just 80,000 Danish kroner in financial assets ($12,700) which is insufficient by European standards. Funny enough, judging by the Russian media, all these countries are lagging behind Russia where the pace of welfare growth of the Russian citizens is said to have outpaced both the world’s average and the one of Eastern Europe over the past two years. As reported by local sources, Russian households are getting richer by 13% per year against 8.3% and 12% respectively.
