Russia’s already legendary gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 has successfully survived the attacks of two US presidents and will probably be put in operation in the near future. The White House admitted its helpless state in the face of the Nord Stream 2. Neither former President Donald Trump nor the present administration under Joe Biden has managed to stop the project. According to the spokesman Ned Price of the US Department of State, the US sanctions failed to stop the construction of the gas pipeline.
“As you know, there was a Nord Stream 2 report submitted to Congress in May. There will be another one 90 days later submitted in August”, Ned Price said during the online briefing held on the US Department of State YouTube channel. He also added that the State Department had discussed the Nord Stream 2 construction with the representatives of Germany, Ukraine, Poland, and other countries, which may suffer from the pipeline launch.
Currently, the US Department of State is, as they say, at the crossroads. The organization is not ready yet for another possible agreement between Washington and Berlin. What is more, the imposed sanctions are proven to be useless and the government will hardly be able to create new ones. The situation has hit a dead end and even the White House press secretary Jen Psaki could not tell the media whether the United States is ready to announce new sanctions on the project.
