Rheinmetall AG, a German Aerospace and defense corporation, recently announced securing an additional contract to deliver Skynex air defense systems to a European client. The contract is valued in the lower three-digit million euro bracket, and deliveries are anticipated to happen throughout 2025.
Just like the original order, the present deal also includes the related Rheinmetall-made HX trucks. The company indicated that the Skynex systems would notably improve the client's capacity to protect against aerial threats. Skynex, which is primarily based on automated cannon air defense, proves specifically effective in very short-range situations where guided missiles may prove ineffective.
Moreover, the use of programmable 35mm Ahead ammunition developed explicitly by Rheinmetall for this operation proves to be substantially more cost-effective than equivalent guided missile-based systems.
