Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla Inc., clarified his company's commitment to expanding their Supercharger network, just after the task force in charge of it was dismissed by the electric vehicle manufacturer.
In a firm statement, Musk said, "Tesla will allocate over $500 million to the expansion of our Supercharger network, establishing thousands of new charging points this year." Musk also emphasized that the sum only represents the cost of new projects and expansions, excluding operational expenses which are significantly more.
Furthermore, Musk disclosed the creation of a group called 'Supercharger Community.' Musk is currently one of the few members of the new group, and new applicants need to gain approval before they become part of the community.
On the 1st of May, Musk communicated to Tesla's personnel about the dissolution of the nearly 500-strong team responsible for the construction of new Supercharger stations.
The Supercharger network of Tesla is the biggest public fast-charge network in the United States. Musk stated that while the growth of new locations might be slower, the emphasis will be on strengthening existing sites. He also assured that all ongoing charging site development would be completed and that Tesla will introduce additional Superchargers to fill any gaps.
