Google To Offer Dark Web Monitoring Tool For Free

Google has announced that its dark web monitoring tool will be available to all Google account users by late July, aiming to enhance protection for their online presence.

Previously, this feature was limited to those with a Google One membership or subscription. The monitoring tool aids users in detecting any breaches or leaks of their personal information on the web and assists in removing such information from search results.

To use the tool, users must access Google's 'Results about you' page to verify if data such as home addresses, phone numbers, or email addresses appear in search results.

Search results from the dark web will be displayed on the 'Results to review' tab. Users can choose the 'Request to remove' option next to the search result if they wish to have their information removed.

"There may be a delay between when a request is approved and when the result is actually removed from search results. Users can check if their information is removed a few hours after approval," Google stated.

Should users not wish to initiate a removal process, they can opt for the 'Mark as reviewed' option.

"Google considers some results valuable to the public, which may include government or educational websites, online newspapers, or business websites. For results from such sites, a 'Remove result' option will not be available," the Alphabet Inc. (GOOG)-owned company highlighted.

Additionally, the tech giant allows users to set up notifications to receive emails if Google identifies any search results that match their personal information.
