FX.co ★ Poland Retail Sales Drop in February

In February 2025, retail sales in Poland experienced a year-on-year decline of 0.5%, a reversal from the 4.8% increase observed the previous month and contrary to market projections, which anticipated a 5% growth. Notably, sales decreased in the categories of solid, liquid, and gaseous fuels, which fell by 3% compared to a 1.3% dip in January. There was also a reduction in sales for food, beverages, and tobacco products, which declined by 2.2% following a 0.6% rise in the prior month, as well as in other goods, which plummeted by 8.7% after a 2.1% decrease. Furthermore, the pace of sales growth decelerated across several sectors: motor vehicles, motorcycles, and parts experienced a growth rate of 5.1%, down from 21.9%; pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and orthopedic equipment saw growth slow to 7.4% from 12.8%; textiles, clothing, and footwear registered a 6% growth, a decrease from 8.8%; and furniture, radio, TV, and household appliances growth diminished to 5.8%, from 13.6%. Conversely, sales of newspapers, books, and other specialized store products experienced a rebound, rising by 1.7% compared to a prior decline of 11.3%. On a month-on-month basis, retail sales fell by 6% in February, following a significant 17.3% contraction in January.
