In May 2025, Greece observed a reduction in its trade deficit, narrowing to EUR 2.3 billion from the previous year's EUR 3.3 billion in the same month. This period saw a 1.3% decline in exports year-on-year, totaling EUR 4.2 billion, driven by a significant 6.1% decrease in sales to non-EU countries, although there was a 2.6% increase in exports to EU member states. Simultaneously, imports decreased more steeply by 14.7%, amounting to EUR 6.5 billion, mainly due to a substantial 35.4% drop in shipments from non-EU nations. In contrast, imports from EU countries rose by 10.2%. Over the first five months of the year, Greece's trade deficit reduced to EUR 13.4 billion from the previous year's EUR 14.4 billion for the same period, with a 4.3% decline in exports and a 5.3% contraction in imports contributing to this overall improvement.
