In May 2025, Colombia experienced a robust year-on-year surge in retail sales, climbing by 13.2% and following an 11.4% increase in April. This growth marks the twelfth consecutive month of rising sales and represents the most substantial increase since June 2022, surpassing market predictions of a 12.4% rise. Sales rose in every category, with remarkable growth observed in telecommunications equipment for personal or domestic use, up by 56.5% compared to 53.7% previously. Vehicles primarily for household use saw a significant increase of 29.8%, compared to the prior 25.6%. Meanwhile, sales of home appliances and furniture grew by 23.3%, improving from 19.1%, and the category of books, stationery, newspapers, magazines, and school supplies rebounded with a 13.7% rise, turning around from a previous decline of 0.2%.
