Hungary's gross average wages experienced a 7.8% increase in May 2025 compared to the same month in the previous year, reflecting a deceleration from April's 9.8% growth. This represents the most modest wage growth since February 2023. Wage increases slowed in both the private sector, which rose by 7.4% compared to April's 9.9%, and the non-profit sector, which saw an 8.3% increase compared to 12.5% in April. Conversely, the public sector witnessed an increase, with wages rising by 9% compared to April's 8.4%. Excluding the influence of one-time payments and bonuses, wages in May were 8.6% higher than the same period the previous year, reaching HUF 660,000. Over the January to May period, the average gross wages saw an overall increase of 9%.
