FX.co ★ UK Consumer Credit Growth Rebounds

In June 2025, net borrowing of consumer credit by UK individuals increased to £1.4 billion, up from a revised £0.9 billion in May, surpassing market predictions of £1.2 billion. This figure marks the highest level seen in five months. The increase was driven by a rise in net borrowing through credit cards, which climbed to £0.7 billion from £0.2 billion, while net borrowing through other consumer credit sources, such as car dealership financing and personal loans, remained largely stable at £0.7 billion. The annual growth rate for all consumer credit rose to 6.7% in June from 6.5% in May. Concurrently, the annual growth rate for credit card borrowing increased to 9.7% from 9.3%, and the growth rate for other forms of consumer credit saw a slight uptick to 5.4% from 5.3%.
