FX.co ★ Cyprus Retail Sales Growth Eases in June

In June 2025, Cyprus experienced an 8.2% increase in retail sales compared to the previous year, marking a slowdown from the three-year high of 10% recorded in May. This deceleration was largely attributed to a more moderate growth in sales of food, beverages, and tobacco within non-specialized stores, which rose 6.9% compared to 9.2% in May. Automotive fuel sales showed a growth of 8%, down from 8.8%, while sales of other household equipment increased by 9.6%, down from 11.4%. Sales within the clothing and footwear category grew by 9.5%, a notable drop from the previous 14.7%. Pharmaceutical, orthopedic goods, and cosmetic sales rose by 6.2%, compared to 7.6% earlier, and sales of flowers, plants, watches, jewelry, optical goods, and second-hand items saw a 7.5% increase, down from 10.5%. Additionally, retail sales not conducted in physical stores showed a significant slowdown, rising only by 4.1% compared to 23.2% previously. Sales dipped for cultural and recreational goods, at -0.2% compared to 0% previously. Conversely, sales of food, beverages, and tobacco in specialized outlets surged ahead, growing by 13.4% as opposed to 9.5%, and sales in information and communication equipment accelerated to 18.8% from 12.3%. Overall, for the year to date, retail sales expanded by 6.9%.
