FX.co ★ Sri Lanka’s Services PMI Moderates in August

In August 2025, Sri Lanka's Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) declined slightly to 68.9 from July's 70.1, indicating a continued but decelerated growth within the sector. Key industries, such as wholesale and retail trade, personal services, accommodation, food and beverage, and financial services, witnessed an expansion in business activities. The rate of new business ventures increased to 66.8 from 64.9 in the previous month, predominantly in the wholesale, retail, and financial service sectors. Employment levels rose, albeit at a slower pace, with the index dropping to 57.0 from 59.8. The backlog of work decreased marginally to 49.4 from 51.1. Looking ahead, business activity expectations for the coming quarter remain optimistic with an index reading of 79.3, slightly down from 80.7, driven by favorable macroeconomic conditions and a boost in tourist arrivals.
