In August 2025, the United Kingdom experienced a reduction of 8,000 payrolled employees, bringing the total down to 30.3 million. This follows a revised decrease of 6,000 in the previous month, marking the seventh straight month of decline. When compared to the same month in the prior year, there was a 0.4% reduction, equating to a loss of 127,000 employees, with the accommodation and food service activities sector experiencing the largest drop of 90,000. Regionally, Westminster saw the most significant decrease in payrolled employees at -2.9%, whereas Mid Ulster reported the highest increase at +1.3%. Simultaneously, the median monthly pay increased by 6.6% year-over-year, reaching £2,568. Among sectors, the health and social work sector led the annual growth in median pay with an 11.0% rise, while the professional, scientific, and technical sector saw the lowest increase at 3.3%.
