In August 2025, Australia saw a decline in employment numbers, with a decrease of 5,400 jobs, bringing the total to 14.62 million. This downturn follows a revised increase of 26,500 in July, falling short of market predictions that anticipated a 22,000 rise. This marks the first drop in employment figures since May, primarily due to a 40,900 reduction in full-time positions, which now total 10.08 million, reversing a sharply revised gain of 63,600 from the previous month. In contrast, part-time employment experienced growth, increasing by 35,500 to reach 4.55 million, following a 37,200 rise in July. Consequently, the employment-to-population ratio decreased slightly to 64.0% from 64.1%, and the participation rate saw a minor decline to 66.8% from 66.9%. Despite the monthly decline, overall employment has risen by 217,200, or 1.5%, over the year.
