In the second quarter of 2025, Costa Rica experienced a reduction in its unemployment rate, which fell to 7.4% from 8.5% in the same period the previous year. This translates to a decrease of 28,533 in the number of unemployed individuals, bringing the total to 172,591. Conversely, there was a slight decline in the employment rate, from 51.4% to 50.7%, as the number of employed individuals dropped by 3,989, totaling 2.15 million. Concurrently, the labor force participation rate saw a decrease, falling to 54.7% from 56.2%.
