Uruguay experienced a decline in its unemployment rate to 7.0% in August 2025, marking a decrease from 8.4% reported in the same period the previous year. In Montevideo, unemployment was recorded at 7.1%, whereas outside the capital, it matched the national average of 7.0%. A breakdown by gender reveals that unemployment among men was at 5.9%, while it was higher for women at 8.3%. Looking at age demographics, the highest unemployment rate was found among individuals aged 14 to 24, registering at 23.2%, whereas the lowest rate of 2.8% was seen among those aged 65 and older. In terms of employment, 9.7% of the workforce was underemployed, and 22.3% of employed individuals did not have social security registration at their primary job. The country's activity rate was 64.4%, while the employment rate was 59.8%.
