FX.co ★ Australia Commodity Prices Fall the Least Since 2023

In September 2025, the Reserve Bank of Australia's Commodity Index registered a slight decline of 0.1% compared to the same month in the previous year. This represents a notable improvement from the revised 5% decrease recorded in August. This period marks the 31st month of falling commodity prices; however, September's reduction was the gentlest since March 2023 when the downward trend began. While prices for thermal coal, coking coal, and liquefied natural gas decreased, these were balanced by price rises in gold, iron ore, and agricultural commodities. When measured in Australian dollars, the index experienced a 4.3% decline in September, compared to a 0.8% decrease the month before, adjusted for revisions. On a monthly scale, there was a 1.9% rise in commodity prices, picking up pace from a 1.2% increase in August, after downward revisions. Throughout the month, all major sub-indices, including rural, non-rural, and base metals, saw upward trends.
