Swiss Consumer Inflation Steady in September

In September 2025, consumer prices in Switzerland experienced a year-on-year increase of 0.2%, maintaining the same rate for three consecutive months and slightly underperforming against market predictions of a 0.3% rise. Despite this stable figure, it marked the fourth successive month of inflation. Notably, prices for housing and utilities saw a modest increase, rising to 0.7% from August’s 0.6%. The recreation and culture sector also experienced significant price acceleration, jumping to 1.9% from 0.5%. At the same time, the rate of deflation eased in both the transport sector, improving to -1.5% from -2.4%, and the household goods and ongoing household management category, moving to -0.5% from -1.1%.

Conversely, the decline in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages quickened to -0.8% from -0.5%. A decrease was also observed in the clothing and footwear sector, dropping to -0.1% from a previous increase of 2.3%, along with a dip in costs for other goods and services, at -0.4% compared to a 0.1% rise before. Meanwhile, inflation slowed in the alcoholic beverages and tobacco sector, adjusting to 0.8% from 0.9%, and in the restaurants and hotels category, easing to 1.3% from 1.8%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices decreased by 0.2% in September, a more pronounced drop than the 0.1% decline in August, but still in line with market forecasts.
