The unemployment rate in the Netherlands, when adjusted for seasonal factors, climbed to 4% in September 2025 — the highest observed since September 2021 — rising from 3.9% in August. The number of unemployed individuals grew by 8,000 to reach a four-year peak of 409,000. Concurrently, employment increased by 4,000, bringing the total to 9.843 million, while the labor force participation rate inched up to 76.4% from 76.3% in the prior month. In September, 19,900 new unemployment benefits were granted, amounting to a total of 187,400, with an equal number of benefits being terminated. Compared to the same period last year, the unemployment rate was 0.3 percentage points higher than the 3.7% recorded in September 2024.
