New Zealand experienced a 7.2% rise in building consents for new dwellings in September 2025 compared to the previous month. This increase, improving from a 6.1% growth in August, marks the third consecutive monthly rise, achieving the fastest pace since May. On a seasonally adjusted basis, approvals amounted to 3,339 units. This total includes 1,634 townhouses, flats, and units, alongside 436 apartments and 76 units designated for retirement villages. Over the year ending September 2025, a total of 34,882 new homes were consented, representing a 3.6% increase from the year ending September 2024.
