China is set to eliminate tariffs on specific optical fiber imports from the United States, effective November 10, as announced by the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday. This move signifies a de-escalation in trade tensions between the two nations. The ministry stated that "in light of the evolving trade environment, the Ministry of Commerce recommended to the State Council Tariff Commission that anti-circumvention measures on imported wavelength-shifted single-mode optical fiber from the United States should be discontinued." These initial tariffs, which ranged from 33.3% to 78.2%, were originally imposed in September following an investigation initiated in March by Chinese authorities amid ongoing trade conflicts with Washington. Companies affected by these tariffs include Corning Inc., OFS Fitel LLC, and Draka Communications Americas Inc., with Corning subjected to a 37.9% tariff, OFS Fitel to 33.3%, and Draka Communications to 78.2%.
