Retail sales in Romania decreased by 1.9% year-on-year in September 2025, following a 2.1% decline in August. This represents the second consecutive month of declining retail performance. Notably, sales of food, beverages, and tobacco experienced a sharper decrease, falling by 6.7% compared to a 4.4% drop in August. Similarly, non-food product sales also weakened, dropping by 0.9% after a 0.4% decrease in the previous month. Meanwhile, growth in sales of automotive fuels slowed to 4.9% from 5.9%. On a month-to-month basis, retail sales saw a 1.3% increase in September, recovering from a 1.3% decline in August.
