FX.co ★ Canada Building Permits Rebound in September

In September 2025, Canada's building permits increased by 4.5% month-over-month, reaching C$11.7 billion. This marked a recovery from the 1.2% decrease observed in August and exceeded market predictions of a 1% rise. The growth was evident in both the residential and non-residential sectors, which saw increases of 4.8% and 4.0% respectively. Residential permits saw a boost of C$335.3 million, totaling C$7.3 billion, mainly due to multi-family project developments in Alberta and Quebec and single-family home constructions in Ontario. Meanwhile, non-residential permits climbed by C$169.6 million to reach C$4.4 billion. This was largely fueled by elevated commercial and industrial activities in Alberta and Quebec, although these gains were partially counterbalanced by a decline in institutional construction projects.
