The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, which monitors the shipping rates for transporting dry commodities, rose for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday. This increase amounted to around 2%, bringing the index to its highest level since September 25, hitting 2,260 points. Gains were observed across all vessel segments. Notably, the capesize index, which is responsible for transporting large cargoes such as 150,000-ton loads of iron ore and coal, climbed for the fifth day in a row. It surged by 3.4% to reach 3,636 points, marking a near two-month high. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which generally carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, edged up by 0.7% to 1,895 points. Among the smaller vessel categories, the supramax index continued its upward trend for the tenth consecutive session, increasing by 0.2% to stand at 1,430 points.
