In September 2025, the value of building plans approved in South Africa experienced a year-on-year increase of 0.3%, reaching ZAR 9,650 million. This follows a revised rise of 2.1% in August and marks the second consecutive month of growth. During this period, there was an uptick in permits for non-residential buildings, which rose by 22.1%, although this is a slight decrease compared to the 29.3% increase in August. Similarly, permits for additions and alterations saw a significant increase of 7.6%, rebounding from a decline of 20.5% in the previous month. However, the residential segment saw a downturn, with permits falling by 13%, compared to a 2.9% increase in August.
