The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, an important indicator tracking freight rates for ships carrying dry commodities, continued its downward trend for the fourth consecutive session on Tuesday. It dropped approximately 5.1%, reaching its lowest point since November 27, at 2,557 points. The capesize index, responsible for transporting large cargoes of around 150,000 tons such as iron ore and coal, also decreased for the fourth day in a row, falling about 7.6% to 4,631 points—a low not seen in a week. The panamax index, which handles cargoes typically between 60,000 and 70,000 tons of coal or grain, declined for the ninth consecutive day, slipping 1.5% to 1,786 points—its lowest level since October 10. In the category of smaller vessels, the supramax index also saw a reduction, experiencing a decline of 11 points to settle at 1,419 points.
