In September 2025, Canada's imports experienced a significant decline of 4.1% compared to the previous month, totaling C$64.1 billion. This decrease follows a 1% reduction in August, with drops observed across seven out of eleven product categories. Notably, imports of metal and non-metallic mineral products plummeted by 27.8%, largely due to a dramatic 72.5% decrease in acquisitions of unwrought gold, silver, and platinum group metals. This resulted from a failure to match the unusually high-value gold shipments from South Africa and Switzerland recorded in August. Additionally, consumer goods imports decreased by 6%, affecting multiple subcategories. Following two months of positive growth, the pharmaceutical and medicinal products sector saw a steep decline of 13.8%, which was the most significant negative impact, primarily due to reduced imports from Europe.
