France Consumer Mood Marginally Improves

In December 2025, France observed a slight uptick in consumer confidence, which increased to 90 from November's 89. Although this figure aligns with market forecasts, it remains notably below the historical average of 100. Citizens' intentions to save showed a minor rise, reaching 46 from the previous 45. Meanwhile, negative views regarding past living standards improved, lifting to -70 from -74. Furthermore, intentions for major purchases became less negative, improving to -27 from -30.

However, there were mixed signals on other fronts. The current saving capacity sentiment softened to 19 from 21, and the anticipated saving capacity dropped slightly to 14 from 16. Expectations for the future standard of living also experienced a minor decline, slipping to -57 from -56. Assessments of households' past financial situations held steady at -21, as did expectations for future financial circumstances, which remained at -14.

Additionally, there was a decrease in the perceived likelihood of unemployment, which fell to 45 from 47. Perceptions about past consumer prices improved, moving to -3 from -8, and expectations regarding future inflation eased slightly, shifting to -30 from -31. Overall, these metrics indicate a persistent cautiousness regarding the broader economic environment.
