The unemployment rate in Germany, when adjusted for seasonal variations, remained unchanged at 6.3% in December 2025. This concludes a year characterized by a slow and inconsistent recovery of the labor market in Europe's largest economy. According to Andrea Nahles, the head of the Labor Office, the job market is still struggling to gain economic momentum, with these issues persisting as the year ends. Employment levels have largely stalled, and the demand for hiring remains weak, reflecting the tentative recovery after two years of economic downturn. Continuing tariffs imposed by the US have exacerbated difficulties for exports and the industrial sector. The number of unemployed individuals saw a moderate increase of 3,000, bringing the total to 2.98 million, whereas a rise of 5,000 had been expected. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, unemployment increased by 22,900, reaching 2.91 million, and remained near the decade's peak of just over 3 million observed in August.
