FX.co ★ Sweden Trade Surplus Widens in December

In December 2025, Sweden's trade surplus increased significantly to SEK 7.4 billion, compared to SEK 2.3 billion in December of the previous year. Exports experienced a modest rise of 0.6% year-on-year, reaching SEK 162.4 billion. This growth was primarily driven by stronger exports to EU nations, which increased by 2% to SEK 84.9 billion. However, exports to markets outside the EU saw a slight decrease of 1%, totaling SEK 77.5 billion. Imports, on the other hand, saw a decline of 2.6%, falling to SEK 155 billion. This was largely due to a 9.4% reduction in imports from non-EU countries, which amounted to SEK 47.5 billion, whereas imports from EU countries rose by 0.7% to SEK 107.5 billion. Throughout the entire year of 2025, Sweden's total trade surplus expanded to SEK 74.1 billion, up from SEK 63.4 billion the previous year, reflecting the country's robust export performance. Adjusted for seasonal variations, the monthly trade surplus rose to SEK 9.5 billion in December, compared to SEK 8.3 billion in November.
