Retail sales in Sweden experienced a modest increase of 1.5% year-on-year in December 2025. This follows a significant upward revision to 6.9% in November, which was the highest growth seen in over four years. The December figures represent the slowest growth since a decline noted in May, largely due to a sharp deceleration in sales of non-durable goods, which only grew by 3.1% compared to the 10.8% rise in November. Additionally, the grocery sector, excluding Systembolaget, saw a slight decline of 0.2%, following a 2.1% increase the previous month. On a monthly basis, retail activity receded by 0.7% in December, reversing the gains of 1.1% that made November a five-month peak. Analyzing the quarter spanning October to December, retail trade was 1.0% higher compared to the July to September period.
