As of February 5th, the average interest rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage edged up slightly to 6.11%, marking its third consecutive week of increase from the low of 6.06% seen in September 2022, according to Freddie Mac data. "In recent weeks, the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage has remained at its most favorable level in a long time. This improved affordability, coupled with increased availability of homes for sale, bodes well for both buyers and sellers as we approach the spring home sales season," commented Sam Khater, Freddie Mac’s chief economist.
