Moldova’s annual inflation rate slowed to 4.8% in January 2026, down from 6.8% in December, reaching its lowest level since July 2024. Non-food inflation eased to 1.8% from 2.3%, largely reflecting a sharper decline in fuel and lubricant prices. Service inflation also decelerated significantly, to 7.2% from 14.9%, driven by lower costs for communal housing services and public catering. By contrast, food prices continued to accelerate (6.2% vs. 5.6%), mainly due to faster increases in the prices of meat, meat products and preserves, eggs, vegetables, and vegetable oils. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.9% in January, matching the pace recorded in December.
