Gold prices declined, giving back some of the strong gains from the previous session and putting pressure on mining shares. In contrast, oil prices advanced amid ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, reinforcing concerns about potential supply disruptions in the Middle East and supporting energy producers.
On the corporate front, markets were looking ahead to earnings from Constellation Software and Intact Financial, scheduled for release later in the day. Results from Great-West Lifeco, Manulife Financial, Shopify, Sun Life Financial, and Waste Connections are expected on Wednesday.
