Sentiment was further pressured by President Donald Trump’s threat to lift global tariffs to 15% and mounting tensions between the US and Iran.
On Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.66%, the S&P 500 lost 1.04%, and the Nasdaq Composite declined 1.13%. Software and payment companies led the selloff on concerns about AI-driven disintermediation. IBM dropped 13.1% after Anthropic unveiled new coding tools, while American Express slid 7.2% following research highlighting the risk of widespread AI-induced job losses.
Other notable decliners included CrowdStrike (-9.9%), Oracle (-4.6%), Applovin (-9.1%), Visa (-4.5%) and Mastercard (-5.8%). Investors are now turning their attention to key corporate earnings due this week from Home Depot, Nvidia, Salesforce, Snowflake and others.
