The number of tourist arrivals in Macau increased by 15.5% year-on-year to 3.647 million in January 2026, moderating from a 17.8% rise in December. Same-day visitors grew 4.6% compared with a year earlier, while overnight visitors fell 6.6%. The average length of stay held steady at 1 day overall; however, the average stay of overnight visitors edged up by 0.1 day to 2.3 days.
By source market, arrivals from mainland China declined 1.6% year-on-year to 2.705 million. Within this group, visitors traveling under the Individual Visit Scheme dropped 9.6% to 1.452 million, largely reflecting a higher comparison base, as last year’s Lunar New Year holidays occurred in late January. Arrivals from Hong Kong decreased 1.3%, whereas those from Taiwan rose 20.7%.
Among Southeast Asian markets, visitors from Malaysia (+52.3%), Thailand (+80.5%), and Singapore (+28.6%) recorded strong growth. By contrast, arrivals from the Philippines (-6.3%) and Indonesia (-21.8%) declined.
