Hungary’s retail sector began 2026 with stable momentum, as year-over-year retail sales growth in January held at 3.5%, unchanged from December 2025. The latest data, updated on 5 March 2026, show no acceleration or slowdown in consumer spending at the start of the year.
On a year-over-year basis, the January figure compares retail activity to the same month a year earlier, mirroring the approach used for December’s 3.5% reading. The back-to-back identical growth rates suggest that, at least for now, Hungarian consumers are maintaining their spending patterns rather than signaling a new upswing or downturn in demand.
